Fried rice with sprouts recipe.

Fried rice is one of the favourite dish of young generation.It can be used used for breakfast,or as snack,or during festivals.If you add sprouts to fried rice taste will be good and of course it is good for health.Try this very delicious fried rice with sprouts.

Required ingredients

Rice:1 cup
Green gram sprouts:1/2 cup
Small onions:(chopped):2
Mixed vegetables(carrot,beans,green peas) chopped:1 cup
Cumin seeds;1 tsp
Cinnamon:2 inch
Cardamom:2 cloves
Curry leaves:2 twigs
Salt;to taste
Clove:2
Oil+ghee:2tsp each

How to prepare fried rice with sprouts

  • Heat oil and ghee in pressure pan.Add the spices and fry until good aroma comes from the spices.
  • Add onions and them till they become transparent.
  • Wash and put the rice to it.Fry it till it becomes white.
  • Add 2-21/2cups of water,salt,chopped vegetables,sprouts,curry leaves and mix well.
  • Close the lid.Cook for 2 signals.Allow it to release pressure by its own.
  • Open the lid.mix well.
  • Serve hot with side dish.

Fruity channa salad recipe


Salads are easy to prepare and good for health.Since it is freshly prepared and raw it is full of energy.We can make many combinations of fruits and vegetables.

Required ingredients

Cooked chick peas:1 cup
Cucumber,grated:1/2 cup
Orange segments,peeled:1/2 cup
Chopped coriander leaves:2 tsp
Lemon juice:1 tsp
Salt and pepper powder:to taste

Wheat germ cutlets recipe

Wheat germ cutlet is a healthy snack.It is very tasty and mouth watering dish for all ages.Wheat germ is very good from the health point of view.

Required ingredients

Wheat germ:1 cup
Small rawa/soji:1 cup
Potatoes,boiled and mashed well:2 large
Spinach:finely chopped:1 bunch
Bottle gourd grated:1/2 medium
Carrot grated:1
Onion finely chopped:1
Ginger crushed:1 piece
Salt to taste
Ghee

How to prepare wheat germ cutlets

  • Press out all excess water from bottle gourd.
  • Press out all moisture from spinach,by pressing in the fold of a cloth.
  • Take potatoes in a large mixing bowl.Add all vegetables,wheat germ salt ,ginger.
  • Mix all ingredients of the bowl to form a soft lump.
  • Take  portions of mixture,form cutlet shaping as desired.
  • Dip each one in rawa on both sides and keep on pre heated skillet.Cook on both sides by adding little ghee.
  • Serve hot with chutney.

Cucumber salad recipe

Cucumber salad is one of the best healthy and tasty salad.It can be used with rice or directly.It is called as Sasive in local language.Here little buttermilk,coconut and mustard seeds are used.

 Required ingredients 

Cucumber:1
Grated coconut:1/2 cup
 Mustard seeds:1/2 tsp Salt:to taste
Buttermilk:1/4 cup
 Coriander leaves

How to prepare cucumber salad


  •  Grate cucumber or finely chop and put it into serving bowl.
  •  Grid grater coconut with mustard seeds to form smooth paste by adding sufficient water. 
  • Add it to the grated cucumber.
  •  Add salt,buttermilk and mix well.Decorate with coriander leaves.

Methi sambar for shyavige

Methi/fenugreek is very cool in nature.It is good for diabetes. we can prepare a very delicious side dish for noodles,idly,dosa.Combination of this will be very tasty and good for health also.

Required ingredients

Methi/Fenugreek seeds:1 tsp
Red chilly:1
Tamarind:a pinch
Salt:to taste
Jaggery(optional):to taste
Grated coconut:1 cup
Oil:1 tsp
For tempering:Oil,mustard seeds,curry leaves.

How to prepare methi/fenugreek sambar

  • Take methi and red chilly in a pan.Add little oil.
  • Fry them in a low flame till you get the smell of methi and methi should turn in to golden brown.
  • Grind them with grated coconut ,tamarind to form smooth paste by adding sufficient water.
  • Transfer in to a vessel, add water so that the consistency should be like that of sambar.
  • Add salt and  jaggery,boil it for 2-3 minutes.
  • Put off the fire.Tempering done with heating oil,mustard seeds and curry leaves.

South indian famous breakfast dish Rice noodles recipe(ottu shyavige)

South Indian rice noodles(ottu shyavige) is one of the traditional breakfast dish.Usually it is prepared during festivals or for guests.This is one of the tasty homemade breakfast dish.It can be served with Banana rasayana/mango rasayana/coconut milk/methi sambar /with chutney.We can prepare upma with it.that is also very tasty.Ingredients are very less,but the preparation is a long procedure. Usually it is prepared with white rice.Some people prepare it with boiled rice also.Some people mix  both white rice and boiled rice in equal ratio.According to your  taste you can try this.

Required ingredients

Rice:2 cups
Salt:to taste

How to prepare South Indian rice noodles(ottu shyavige) 

  • Soak rice for 2 hours after washing.Grind it in to smooth paste after adding sufficient water.
  • Transfer it in to a thick bottomed pan.Add salt to taste.
  • The thickness of the batter should be thinner than the dosa batter.Adjust the water.
  • Heat it on medium flame and start stirring.
  • Stirr continuously till it becomes a lump and starts separating from the sides of the pan.
  • Allow it to cool.Make balls of the size so that it should adjust your shyavige machine or chakkuli presss.
  • Steam cook the balls for 30-45 minutes.
  • Put one by one balls in the shyavige machine or chakkuli press and press it.Collect the noodles or shyavige.
  • Serve with Coconut milk/banana rasayana/dates rasayana/chutney/methi sambar/any side dish of your choice.

Home remedies for Cough

 Cough is one of the unwanted guest in every body's life.It causes some sort of disturbance to our day today activities.There will be irritation of throat,loss of sleep in association with cough.It is a comman problem for smokers,and some high sensitive person.All people must have experienced cough in their life time.

What is cough?

Cough is not a disease,it is the body's way of removing foreign particles from the lungs and upper air ways,is a symptom of many conditions like laryngitis,bronchitis,tuberculosis,etc.

Types of cough

There are two types of classification
(1)Productive cough
   Non productive cough
(2)Acute cough
Chronic cough
Productive cough-This type of cough produces mucus.Depending upon the condition colour of mucus will be different like white,yellow,brown etc
Non productive cough -In this there will not be any mucus production.cough will be dry.
Acute cough which has produced with in 3 weeks time.
Chronic cough-cough which lasts for more than 3 weeks time.

Causes of cough

  • External irritants such as smoke,dust,some time times swallowed particles irritating the air passage.
  • Allergy to some particular objects.
  • Some of the diseases like asthma,bronchitis,pneumonia,lung tumour or cancer of lung,tuberculosis etc
  • Viral infections like common cold may turn to cough.
  • Smoking or any other form of tobacco use causes lung damage and produces cough.

Remedies for cough

In case of Tuberculosis of lung, Pneumonia, Tumor/cancer of Resp. system Do take treatment from a Physician or Expert.
Cough is a symptom and not disease,so we have to manage or treat the causes.

  • Always take fresh foods ,avoid frozen foods.
  • Use plenty of water.

Potato salad


Potato known for its good taste and also for gas formation!!. Raw potato  will not cause any gas.Without potato we cannot imagine masala dosa,bonda etc.We can prepare a very delicious salad which can be used as side dish also.here ginger is used to pacify the gas formation.

required ingredients

Potato(medium sized)-2-3
Onion:1(optional)
Salt:to taste
Fresh ginger;1/2 inch size
Butter milk:2 cups
Coriander Leaves.

How to prepare potato salad


  • Wash and cut potato into 2-3 pieces each.(This is for easy cooking)
  • Put them in a container and cook till they become soft.OR you can cook in the pressure cooker for 2-3 signals.
  • Allow it to cool.Remove the peel from potato.
  • Finely chop them in to small cubes or you can mash with your hand.
  • Chop onion ,coriander leaves and ginger and add to it.
  • Add salt to taste.
  • Add buttermilk  and mix well.
  • If you want you can do tempering with ghee ,mustard seeds and red chilly.

Ginger chutney



Ginger has got place in Indian Kitchen because of its medicinal value.Chutney prepared by using ginger is a good combination for rice,dosa,idly,chapati etc.Chutney is very delicious and it expels the unwanted gas from abdomen.It acts as appetiser,digestive.

Required ingredients

Coconut grated:1 cup
Ginger:1 inch size
Red chilly:1/2 or Pepper:1/2 tsp
Salt: to taste
For seasoning-Oil:1 tsp
Mustard seeds:1 tsp

How to prepare  ginger chutney

  • Put grated coconut,ginger,red chilly in mixer or grinder to form smooth paste by adding sufficient water
  • Transfer it to serving bowl.Add salt and mix well.
  • heat oil in a pan.Put mustard seeds,red chilly.
  • When mustard seed splutter pour it over the chutney.

Lemon rice recipe


Lemon rice is one of the easy and delicious breakfast dish.because of minimum ingredients and less cooking time this is one of the favourite dish of bachelors.This can be used as breakfast as well as snack.

Required ingredients 

Rice(cooked):1 cup
Fresh lemon:1
Oil:2 tsp
Mustard seeds:1 tsp
Blackgram dal:1 tsp
Channa dal:1/2 tsp
Ground nuts:10-12
Broken red chilly:1/2
Curry leaves
Turmeric powder:1/4 tsp
Salt to taste
Grated coconut:1/4 cup

How to prepare lemon rice


  • First prepare rice and keep it aside.(how to prepare rice)
  • Heat oil in a pan.Add mustard seeds,Channa dal,black gram dal,broken red chilly,ground nuts(peanut).
  • When mustard seeds starts spluttering add curry leaves,turmeric powder and salt.
  • Add cooked rice and mix well.
  • Add grated coconut and again mix it.
  • Heat it on low flame till the rice becomes warm.
  • Put off the fire.
  • Cut lemon and extract juice.Sprinkle it over the cooked rice mixture.mix well.
  • Lemon rice is ready.Serve hot.

Whole wheat paratha(multi layered Indian flat bread) recipe


Whole wheat is rich in fibre and other nutrients.Paratha will be same as chapati or Indian flat bread,but paratha will have layers and is more soft.Shape of this will be triangle instead of circle.

Required ingredients

Whole wheat flour: 2 cups
Water: 1 cup
Salt:to taste
Ghee:7-8 tsp

How to prepare paratha

  • Take 1 cup of hot water in a large bowl.Add salt.
  • Slowly add wheat flour to make soft dough so that it should not stick to fingers.
  • Kneed the dough for 5 minutes and keep it aside for 15-30 minutes after covering it.
  • Once again kneed the dough and make small balls of the size of lemon.
  • Flatten the balls with the palm and toss it on wheat flour.
  • Take one of the flattened ball roll out into thin circles with Chapati roller.
  • While rolling sprinkle flour over it to prevent sticking.
  • Those who finds difficulty in rolling can take the  help of chapati press.only drawback is chapati prepared with it will be thick.
  • Take ghee and apply it over the flattened chapati.Fold  in the centre.
  • Again apply ghee over it and fold it.Now it looks like small triangle.
  • Once again roll it  to make thin triangle with the help of roller.
  • Heat tava on  medium flame.      put the rolled chapati on pre heated tava.
  • Cook on one side .When there is small bubbles turn the paratha up side down .
  • Again cook till it becomes brown.
  • Serve hot with Dal/sa

    bji/or any curry of your choice.
  • Repeat the procedure  with the flattened balls.

Chapati preparation for beginners


Chapati or Indian flat bread is prepared with wheat flour.Main ingredients are wheat flour,water and salt.But some people use milk along with or instead of water to make chapati more soft.Some are adding ghee/butter/oil while preparing the dough and while cooking it self.What I do is after cooking the chapathi apply ghee.If you apply ghee over hot chapati it spreads evenly and makes it soft and tasty.

Required ingredients

Bolu Huli/Bolu kodilu(Coconut free curry for high cholesterol) recipe


Bolu means plain in Kannada Language.Usually Dakshina Kannada people use coconut or toordal for the preparation of curry.Coconut or dal gives thickness and of course taste to the curry.This bolu huli/curry  is common in summers.This will be watery like rasam but rich in vegetables.This preparation is good for high cholesterol people ,over weight persons and ideal diet after delivery.This goes best with rice.

Required ingredients

Any vegetable (like ash gourd,bottle gourd,pumpkin,ladies finger,brinjol)for example bottle gourd:1
Salt:to taste
Jaggery:to taste
Tamarind:size of grape
Pepper powder:1/2 tsp
For seasoning-Oil:1 tsp
mixed veg bolu huli
Mustard seeds:1 tsp
Broken red chilly:1/2
Curry leaves

How to prepare bolu huli 


  • Remove the peel of bottle gourd and cut them into small cubes.
  • Soak tamarind in 1/2 cup of water and keep it aside.
  • Cook bottle gourd cubes with sufficient water by adding salt,jaggery and pepper powder.
  • Squeeze the juice from tamarind and add that to boiling vegetable.
  • Cook them till the vegetables become soft.Put off the fire.
  • Heat oil in pan.Add mustard seeds,broken red chilly and curry leaves.
  • When the mustard seeds splutter add to the curry.

Preparation of turmeric milk-A home remedy for cold and cough

Turmeric is a very good antiseptic,anti histamine.Turmeric is very common in Indian kitchens because of its medicinal value.It is used as spice as well as medicine.Cold and cough are the common problems but they effect our day today activity very much.We can prepare a simple home remedy for cold and cough by using turmeric.This gives wonderful effect in cold and cough.Even for small children we can try this.

Required ingredients

Milk:1 cup
Organically grown turmeric powder:1/4 tsp
Water:1/2 tsp
Jaggery Syrup(optional):to taste

How to prepare turmeric milk


  • Take milk,water and turmeric powder in a vessel and make it to boil.
  • Boil the content till all water evaporates and only milk remains.
  • Filter it with a strainer.
  • Drink warm turmeric milk sip by sip.If you want sweet you can add jaggery syrup when it is warm.(don't add jaggery when milk s boiling or hot).

Preparation of rice for beginers


Rice is rich in carbohydrates and vitamins. Rice can be used with rasam,sambar or just with curd and pickle.Rice  can also be used to prepare lemon rice,curd rice,ghee rice,jeera rice,vaangi bath ,pulav etc .For all these preparations  good  cooked rice is must. Always use good rice such as Basmathi or any other good quality rice.Rice can be prepared in many ways like using pressure cooker,using microwave,using rice cooker and direct fire.Direct fire method is the ancient method and and it requires little more time when compared with modern methods.Usually for cooking of rice double quantity of water is required.But some rice require more water and some less, that depends on the variety of rice.Adjusting water will comes by practise.By adding little oil or ghee while cooking will help to prevent the rice to become sticky.

Ingredients required

fresh rice
Rice:1 cup
Water: 2cups
Oil or ghee: 1tsp

Direct fire method


  • Take  2 cups of water in a vessel.Heat it on the stove and make it to boil.
  • Take one cup of rice ,wash it thoroughly and drain the water.
  • Add oil/ghee to the boiling water.
  • Put washed rice to the boiling water.Close a lid.
  • Reduce the fire to Sim.
  • Open once in a while and check for water content.
  • Take some rice in a spoon and squeeze between your fingers to check the cooking.
  • Once it is done put off the fire.If water is their drain the e xcess water.
  • Now the rice is ready.

Rice preparation in pressure cooker.


  • One can prepare rice directly putting it in the pressure cooker or putting in a container.
  • Wash rice, drain the water and directly put it in the pressure cooker.
  • Add water.Put 1 tsp of oil/ghee.
  • Close the lid.
  • When the water starts boiling you will see the steam coming from the top.
  • Put weight.
  • Cook till you get 2 signals.
  • Put off the fire.Allow the cooker to release the pressure by its own.open the lid.
  • Rice is ready.


  1. Or Take rice ,water(1:2Ratio) and ghee/oil in a container.
  2. Put1/2 -1 cup of water to the bottom of cooker.
  3. Keep the container in the cooker.
  4. Close the lid.
  5. When the water starts boiling you will see the steam coming from the top.
  6. Put weight.
  7. Cook till you get 2 signals.
  8. Put off the fire.Allow the cooker to release the pressure by its own.open the lid.
  9. Rice is ready


Rice preparation in rice cooker


  • Take 1 cup of rice in the container.
  • wash and drain the water.
  • Add 2 cups of water to it.Add 1 tsp of oil or ghee.
  • Place the container in the rice cooker.Cover it.
  • Plug the cooker in and press switch to on.
  • When the rice is done it will switched off.
  • Allow as it is for 10 minutes for settling.Open the lid.
  • Rice is ready.


Rice preparation in microwave


  • Wash and drain 1 cup of rice.
  • Put rice and 2 cups of water in a microwave safe container.(container should be 4 times big enough to hold the expanded rice)
  • Add oil/ghee
  • Stirr it with wooden spoon.
  • Cover the rice.
  • Place in the microwave and set the timer.For 1 cup of rice it may take 15 minutes.
  • Allow the rice in the microwave for 5 minutes after it turns off.
  • Rice is ready.

  • Decorate with chopped coriander leaves.
