Plain rasam recipe(bele saaru)

This plain rasam is a good combination with rice.Here thoor dal is the main ingredient.To subside its gaseous effect we are adding ginger.This tastes very good even healthy too.
Required ingredients
Thoor dal:1 cup
Green chilly:1
Ginnger:1 inch size
Salt:to taste
Jaggery(optional):to taste
Tamarind:size of grape OR
Lemon:1
Turmeric powder:a pinch
Ghee:1 tsp
Mustard seeds:1
Broken red chilly:1
Curry leaves
How to prepare bele saaru
Cook thoor dal by adding sufficient water.
Add salt,jaggery,tamarind,slit green chilly,crushed ginger and turmeric powder and boil it.If you are adding lemon juice instead of tamarind add it at the end of preparation.don't boil after adding lemon juice.
heat ghee in apan,add mustard seeds.broken red chilly.When they splutter add curry leaves and pour over rasam.

Carrot soup recipe

 Every body knows regarding carrots.Carrot contains iron,calcium,carotene,Vitamin B,C,D,niacin,folic acid,potassium etc.They are rich source of fibre ,that are soluble and some insoluble will make the stool bulk..These soluble fibres helps to reduce Harmful blood cholesterol level.carrot reduces the uric acid level and helpful in nephritis.With all these good qualities carrot helps us to keep healthy.If we take carrot in any form either raw or cooked it is well and good.Now it is raining heavily.So let us prepare hot carrot soup.
Carrot soup

Required ingredients

Carrot:4
Potato: 1(small)
Milk/Coconut milk:25ml(optional)
Salt:to taste
Pepper powder:to taste
Butter(for over weight persons it is not recommended)
Coriander leaves

How to prepare carrot soup


  • Finely chop carrot and potato.Cook them very soft.(with pressure cooker)
  • Grind them to form smooth paste.
  • Add sufficient water so that it should have the consistency of soup.Add milk/coconut milk,salt,pepper powder and boil it.
  • If you want you can add a pinch of asafoetida to reduce the gas formation due to potato.Add coriander leaves.
  • put off the fire.Add butter and serve hot.

Kidney stone crusher Hoarse gram rasam(Kudu/huruli saru) recipe


Hoarse gram is known for its stone crushing property.We can prepare a very delicious  and healthy rasam out of it.Daily intake of this rasam reduces the size of kidney stone and expels the small ones with urine.For healthy person ,this can be used as side dish with rice.
Required ingredients
Hoarse gram:200 grams
Salt:to taste
Jaggery:50 grams
Tamarind:a pinch
Turmeric powder:1/4 tsp
Pepper powder:1/2 tsp
Coriander seeds:2 tsp
Cumin seeds:1/2 tsp
Methi(fenugeek):1/4 tsp
Asafoetida:size of peanut
Oil:2 tsp
curry leaves
How to prepare hoarse gram rasam
Wash and soak hoarse gram over night.
Cook the hoarse gram dal by adding sufficient water to make it soft.
Add salt,jaggery, tamarind,pepper powder and boil it.
In a pan fry coriander,cumin,fenugreek seeds with oil.Make it powder and add to the boiling rasam.
Lastly add asafoetida,and curry leaves and put off the fire.
This rasam suits best with rice.

Punarpuli(cocum) saaru


Punarpuli saru
Punarpuli or cocum is one of the best pitta shamaka.It is a natural coolant.It improves appetite.With its red colour it attracts easily.One can preserve cocum peels by drying them in sunlight.They will last for more than a year.This dish suits best with rice.

Required ingredients for the preparation of cocum saaru
cocum(dried or fresh)peel:2-3
Jaggery :75grams
Salt:as per taste
Ginger:1/2 inch
For tempering:ghee;1/2tsp
              Mustard seeds:1/2tsp
              Curry leaves:2-5
Method of preparation
Soak cocum peel in 1/2 litre of water for 1/2 an hour.
Add salt and jaggery and boil it.
While boiling add crushed or finely chopped ginger.
Boil for 5 minutes and put off the fire.
Heat ghee in a pan.Put mustard seeds.when they starts cracking add curry leaves and pour it over the preparation.
Cocum saaru ready.
