Pongal is prepared on the auspicious occasion of Makara Sankranti.It is a sweet prepared with rice and green gram dal. It can be prepared any time.But on that day it is offered to Soorya(Sun)Deva.
Required ingredients

Rice:1 cup
Jaggery:250 grams
Dry coconut gratings:1/2 cup
Cardamom powder:1 tsp
Ghee:4 tsp
Cashew nut:10
How to prepare sweet Pongal
- Put green gram dal in a thick pan and fry till it turns light brown.
- Put 4 cups of water in pressure cooker and heat it.put jaggery in it.
- Wash fried dal and rice.
- Add dry coconut gratings,cardamom powder,cashew nut and make it boil.
- Add fried green gram dal and rice to that boiling mixture and close the lid.
- Pressure cook for 2 signals.
- When the cooker is cool remove the lid,pour the ghee over it and mix well.
- Sweet pongal is ready to serve.
